Top Indian Restaurants in Thimphu Bhutan

Although trying out different cuisines is a part of traveling to other countries, we still yearn for home food after a certain period of time. With Bhutan becoming quite a popular tourist destination among Indian travelers, we list some of top restaurants in Thimphu that serve exceptionally good Indian food.

  1. Restaurant at Hotel Tandin

The restaurant has been operational for more than a decade now. Years of experience have taught them to be efficient in terms of service delivery time and the kitchen has a great command over their menu. The restaurant was recently revamped and the new interior offers more space for the diners. The restaurant is centrally located in town near the traffic pavilion. The restaurant is busiest during the lunch hours. The restaurant serves a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Their Chicken Makhani and the assortment of Naan bread are a must try dish while at the restaurant. Their menu prices range from INR 100 to INR 500.

Hotel Tandin

  1. Upstairs Restaurant

The restaurant is located in City Mall below Taj Tashi Hotel. The main dining area looks more like a lounge with cozy chairs and low tables. The restaurant also has private dining room decked with bar and karaoke. The rooms have a floor to ceiling sliding windows that offer great view of the forest on the other side of the Thimphu River. Diners can also step out to the alfresco and enjoy the fresh air.  Some of the recommended dishes are Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Veg Shamimi Kebab, Upstairs Butter Chicken and the restaurant also serves non-vegetarian thali.  Their menu prices range from INR 300 to INR 600.

  1. Spices

Spices is a new restaurant in Thimphu specializing in Indian cuisine. The restaurant is located near Changlam Plaza adjacent to Coffee Culture. The restaurant has a minimalist interior design with few rustic wooden tables and chairs. The small room is compensated with high ceiling and thus it doesn’t feel as claustrophobic. Specials served are visibly written on a white board behind the counter. The restaurant serves their food in super clean china plates and silverwares and the food presentation is quite descent as well. The place is only open for lunch and dinner.     Their menu prices range from INR 300 to INR 1000

Spices Restaurant

  1. Sinchula Restaurant

Sinchula restaurant is popular among Indian tourists and locals. The restaurant is located near Hong Kong market and is known for their Indian food. The restaurant has a wooden based interior with warm lighting and you will always find a soothing Bollywood songs playing in the background. The restaurant is run by a local chef who was trained in India and he offers range of choices for the diners. The restaurant is known for its delicious range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian Thali and Tandoori meals.

  1. Mezze

Mezze is centrally located close to the clock tower square in Thimphu. The kitchen is run by competent Indian chefs and professional and kind team of locals run the service. The cozy restaurant serves various regional Indian food including Bengali, southern and northern Indian dishes. Some of the popular dishes on their menu are the Hyderabadi Biryani, the multi course Thali and Bengali fish curry. The menu prices range from INR 300 to INR 1500.

Mezze Restaurant

  1. Latest Recipe at Le Meridien

The Latest Recipe is a multi-cuisine restaurant at the Le Meridien Hotel in Thimphu. The restaurant offers range of Indian cuisine options. The executive chef at the restaurant is from India and thus ensures the cuisine authenticity and quality of food served at the restaurant. Diners can either order by the menu or try their 4 course set menus which includes starters, soup, a choice of main course and dessert. The restaurant opens at 7 AM and closes by 11 PM. Prices range from INR 500 to INR 3000.

Le Merdien

Thongsel is a multi-cuisine restaurant at the Taj Tashi hotel in Thimphu. The high ceiling room is curated with classy furniture and a floor to ceiling window that offers a refreshing view of the mountains on the other side of the valley. The restaurant also has an enclosed alfresco with lush green lawns to elevate dining experience. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sunday brunch is organized at the Thongsel, where diners can enjoy good wine, live music and great food. The restaurant at Taj Tashi is also led by top Indian chefs thus authenticity of the Indian Cuisine is always ensured. Price ranges from INR 500 to INR 3000

Ghasel is a budget hotel in Thimphu. It is located in the heart of the city along the Norzin road. The hotel is very popular with Indian tourists not just for the affordable rooms but also for the food served at their restaurant. Their restaurant is pure vegetarian and their Indian multi course thali is very popular among the tourists and locals. Price menu ranges from INR 100 to INR 500.
